Coming soon: Who's Frank Brehany?
Activism | Communicator | Opinion
Hello and welcome to my Substack page.
Whilst Substack appears to be heavily influenced by voices from the American continent, I bring a voice from the other side of the pond.
I have been an active voice since 1997 in the UK and European Media, primarily on Travel. My focus on that commentary has always been upon the rights of UK and European Consumers, but I have also produced many contributory pieces that reveal a genuine review and insight into destinations borne out of first-hand experiences.
Coupled with that activity I have also been heavily engaged in bringing the Consumer voice into the very heart of the political environment, making the argument for increased Consumer Rights and Regulatory change. My activism has for example included making the argument and succeeding in witnessing the introduction of comprehensive law that protects the Rights of ordinary holidaymakers who purchase Package Holidays. Argument and debate has followed into the arenas of Air Passenger Rights and Ships Safety. In recent years my focus has rested in the field of Aviation safety through the highly controversial field of Cabin Air Quality. That issue alone has seen my work through the engagement and development of International Standards to bring about better and safer conditions for all those who work on or travel within the aircraft environment.
Since 2010, I began what I believed was simply going to be a family tree research, only to find eventually, that my family’s hidden secret revealed a cruelty of experience contained within Ireland’s Mother and Baby Home and Magdalen Laundry system that lives with my family to this very day.
Whilst my working life began as a police officer, followed by qualification and practice as a Solicitor (Lawyer), that desire to help others and a fascination in how the law works and what you can do to change that which underpins the law, brought me into a new sphere of legal practice. Advocacy, communication and seeking solutions through argument, persuasion and consensus developed my skills as a writer, content-provider and communicator.
Even though I have now officially retired from the official practice as a Solicitor, my advocacy continues and I remain fully engaged in the quest for a better Cabin Air Quality and to bring about not just a personal family Justice on the Magdalen issue in Ireland, but working with colleagues in the Irish Republic for a true Transitional Justice for all.
I continue to write on Travel & Magdalen issues, but also provide comment on broader social and political issues, some of which you will be able to read through my Substack page.
I have already written one book on Cabin Air Quality and this is currently being substantially updated and will be re-published in 2024. My other current book Project relates to my family’s experiences and my own journey on Ireland’s Magdalen system. This is currently undergoing its final edit with the support of a professional editor and will be ready for publication in 2024.
Apart from writing regular articles and publishing podcasts, I have other writing and media projects in development.
I look forward to engaging with subscribers as my Substack presence grows!
Best wishes, Frank
